Tamora Pierce is, hands down, one of the most gifted young adult fantasy writers alive today; all of her series that I have read (with my daughter) are well-written, with complex characters that grow with each successive book...her females are strong and independent, and the quality of magic is addictive. The books were written as her initial audience "grew up", so the characters do encounter more mature themes as the quartets progress; as a parent and teacher, I was glad to be able to share these with my students.
(FYI: these particular books, bound together as "duets", must have been a mis-print - as the descriptions on the fronts do not match the "elements" associated with each mage - and there are no maps (which you can find online anyway), but this did not detract from the quality of the material contained within.)

I was totally happy with this vendor. Our book was received in excellent condition. I would be more than happy to use this vendor again.
I have always love this book. It's one of my favorites, or I should say two of my favorites.
Arrived in perfect condition, and looks amazing. Definitely would order again!
I do love these books for light fantasy get-away.
I am 50 pages away from finishing the second book and have loved it all the way through. I read the first one as a child and have now bought all four to read. If you are into meditation then this could be really good for visualizing things. I use the descriptions of them using their magic to visualize better in meditation.
I've loved these books for a long time. They feature strong young ladies with an interesting take on magic abilities, it's unique, engaging, and there's no sex, making it a good introduction to Pierce's work for young ladies who may not quite be ready for more adult material. I love that I can get them in hardback now, and the condensing is an added bonus!
Of the books that were supposed to come with this order, out of 2 as described and pictured, one came. I was informed that there would not be a second book coming, that indeed they were out of that volume, and that they had no idea that the second book would not arrive until after i made my initial contact. This as i told them was a clear sign that there needs to be a shake down as to which amongst them is actually performing their duties from top to bottom. The one book that i got from this company was in relatively good condition but one corner of the hardback book cover was bent, dog eared, through either shipping or company side handling. This happens through either inexperience, as indicated by little packing protection ie plastic air bags and/or packing peanuts or the rigors of shipping. Guess which one i suspect. There was however a promise of refund as saving grace which im still, at this date, waiting for them to make good on. Over all, i would not recommend buying from this company. If you do, make sure that you get exactly what you paid for or at least can find a back up item. You are warned.
