I am glad I already bought the next two books in the series. I won't have to wait to start the next book. Watch out Stephanie Plum - here comes pAmber Foxy!
This is classic Sibel Hodge. I put most of her books in the "chick-lit" category but they are always something more. They are always funny and have a bumbling, but loveable, female lead.

Amber Fox used to be Detective Sergeant until she accidentally shoots her boss, Janice Skipper, in the rear. She is forced to resign and takes a job as an insurance investigator with Hi-Tec, her ex-boyfriend's, Brad, insurance company. She begins investigating fashion designer, Umberto Fandango, by putting "bugs" in his pens. When Amber realizes the pens aren't working she goes back to replace the pens and stumbles into a possible maybe murder scene. There is blood everywhere and Fandango is missing. So Amber decides she is on the case wanting to beat her former boss to solve the mystery so she can prove herself to get her job back.

Along the way, Amber finds herself in some really funny situations. I mean laugh out loud while your are reading funny. This is what I like about Hodge's writing. There is just something about her writing that always has me in histerics. Some chick lit is just plain boring but not this. The only reason I gave it 4 stars in instead of 5 was that is was a little long but it is still worth the read. If you haven't read Sibel Hodge, try it....I think you might find yourself giggling as you read.
I purchased this book several months ago, and didn't remember what it was about. I was pleasantly surprised.

Amber Fox, ex-police officer, current insurance investigator, worrying for her ex-fiance (Brad), who she may still be in love with, and dating her current boyfriend (Romeo), who also happens to be a cop.

If all of that isn't enough to keep you entertained, this isn't the book for you. This was light hearted, funny, kind of goofy, with a silly cast of characters. It was just convoluted enough that I didn't figure out the who done it. Or, maybe I'm just a little dense.

This book is along the lines of the Stephanie Plum books, but is still different enough to be entertaining. Not to mention that Amber is not nearly as incompetent as Stephanie. -)

I enjoyed this book enough that I will definitely be working my way through the series. After all, I need to find out if she ever chooses one guy over the other.
Amber Fox can’t seem to find a break after all it all started when she shot Chief Inspector Janice Skipped and gets throw off the police force. Next she accepts a job offer from her ex fiancé Brad Beckett as insurance investigator and last but not least Umberto Fandango famous fashion designer goes missing, a mysterious psychic and Brad insurance company will be out millions unless Amber can solve the mystery.

This book is silly, light hearted and ridiculous but a fun read with it over the top characters who make you laugh. The book has a lot of great components to create a fun light hearted mystery. Romance, mystery, over the top missing fashion designer, a psychic daughter who enjoyed messing with witch craft, a boyfriend and ex fiancé who will do almost anything to get Amber to make a commitment. The mobster/goons were extremely cartoonish in their behavior but it made for laugh out loud moments.

The Amber Fox mysteries are fun slapstick reads that for the most part stand-alone but I suggest starting with the first.

For the most part, I read books to be entertained, relax and escape everyday life for a bit. I get a kick out of female characters who are feisty, funny and a bit crazy. Amber Fox, the main character in this series, covers all of those requirements quite well. Amber has been booted from her job as a detective with the police and has taken a new job with her ex-fiance as an insurance investigator. She has a steady boyfriend but has found herself attracted to her old fiance and is second guessing herself about the relationship with the new guy. The cases she is assigned to investigate for the insurance company run the gamut from allegedly injured on the job and unable to work to a car theft ring that is rumored to be getting ready to torch their warehouse to a fashion designer who gets abducted and possibly murdered in the course of her investigation. Somehow, of course, everything is solved by the end (except her relationship woes). There are a lot of characters in the book, many of them hilarious. While the book may not be considered fine literary fiction it is amusing, funny and a good murder mystery.
